Would I recommend The Warwick Fiji? A Travel Agent’s honest review

recommend The Warwick Fiji

Is Fiji on your bucket list? If not, it should be! This tropical South Pacific country, made up of 333 islands, is the perfect paradise escape. But choosing where to stay can feel overwhelming. Should you stay near Nadi, close to the airport, where the expensive, top-notch resorts are, or head down to the Coral Coast, where great-value resorts make your hard-earned cash stretch further?

In this blog post, I’m going to share how my family and I unexpectedly ended up staying here, and whether I’d ultimately recommend The Warwick Fiji after experiencing it firsthand.

My husband Zac and I had dreamed of visiting Fiji since 2009, but between moving back to the UK, the pandemic, and raising our daughter, it kept slipping further down the list.

Returning to Travel

Fast forward to post-COVID, and after returning to my career as a travel agent, Fiji was suddenly everywhere. It quickly became one of my most-requested destinations, and with each booking, my knowledge of this beautiful country grew. Still, one thing always bugged me: whenever clients asked if I’d been to this tropical paradise, I had to admit, “Not yet.” Then came a turning point. After attending a conference for the launch of Fiji Airways’ new direct route from Canberra to Nadi, I came home buzzing with excitement and announced to my family, “I want to go to Fiji!” And a year later, we did just that! Now, at last, I can say I’ve been, and it didn’t disappoint!

When Plans Go Awry

The Warwick wasn’t where we’d originally planned to stay. We had booked our first overseas holiday almost a year in advance, so the excitement had been building for months. But as every traveller knows, things don’t always go smoothly. A delayed flight out of Canberra meant a late-night arrival in Nadi, followed by a long two-hour drive to the Coral Coast.

It was just after midnight when we finally pulled into the Naviti, our chosen resort. The palm trees lining the driveway, along with the soft glow of the lights, all felt so magical. But instead of checking in, the manager handed me an envelope with a letter explaining that, due to unforeseen circumstances, we couldn’t stay that night. We’d be heading a little further up the road to their sister property, The Warwick. You’ve got to be kidding me! After travelling since 7 a.m., I was exhausted and honestly ready to burst into tears. The thought of a further 10-minute drive up the road felt like too much, but off we went.

Late Night Arrivals

For the second time that night, we drove up a grand palm-lined driveway, this one leading to The Warwick. The resort was beautifully designed in traditional Fijian style, with rich wood finishes, open spaces, and a touch of luxury that instantly impressed us. And to top it off, the staff at reception were warm and welcoming. However, all I could think about was sleep.

Once the initial frustration wore off, I realised how lucky I was. Having booked many clients into this property over the years, I finally had the chance to experience it for myself and gain some valuable firsthand knowledge. That’s why I would be happy to recommend The Warwick Fiji to my clients. What felt like a disaster at first quickly turned into an unexpected blessing.

We checked into our room, and I immediately told everyone not to unpack. Just grab PJs and toothbrushes, because in my mind, we’d be checking out first thing in the morning after breakfast. We decided to check out the view, pulled back the curtain and wow! What a view! From our balcony, we had a gorgeous pool-view room with palm trees swaying and the beach just beyond. We couldn’t have asked for more.

Midnight munchies and late-night exploring!

Despite the late hour, we summoned the energy for a quick wander. Aria was buzzing with excitement (so much for keeping her quiet) until she spotted a Fijian frog by the pool and completely freaked out. Poor thing, the frog I mean, it stayed frozen long enough for me to snap a photo. The pool area itself looked magical, all lit up against the night sky, with straw umbrellas on the private beach and even a little island in the distance.

Back in the room, hunger hit hard. Sadly, there were no snacks or minibar to tide us over, so we ordered some much-needed room service. I had a chicken club sandwich and French fries. The sandwich was decent, but the fries were soggy and undercooked, maybe a 2 out of 10 at best. Still, when you’re that hungry, anything will do. I ate what I could, pushed the plate aside, and crashed into bed, only to be woken again by music drifting up from the pool outside…

Rude awakening

Who’s playing music in the middle of the night?! Except it wasn’t the middle of the night. It was now the next morning, and I was startled awake to find it was already 9:15 a.m! We’d slept like the dead… and through our alarms!  After throwing on the first clothes we could find, we hurried down to breakfast. Compared to the quiet night before, the resort was now buzzing with life. Descending the grand staircase into the dining room, complete with a small fountain, I couldn’t help but be impressed.

One word…pancakes!!!

The setting was spectacular. The dining room opened up to sweeping ocean views framed by palm trees, the resort stretching out below. It finally hit me. Yes, we were in Fiji. The buffet was plentiful, and I made a beeline for the coffee. But in my sleepy haze, I somehow missed the pancake station until Zac pointed it out to me. Back I went, and let me tell you, they were delicious. Pancakes, coffee, sunshine. I was one happy camper.

After breakfast, we wandered out to the terrace off the restaurant to soak up the views. In the distance, a little private island was calling our name. With only an hour before we had to leave, time was short, and just as we stepped outside, the heavens opened. Nope, go away rain, we haven’t got time for you right now.

Further exploration

Luckily, it passed quickly, and we kept exploring. We discovered a second pool with cabanas (two pools, not bad at all), a heart-shaped flower bench that made the perfect photo spot, and lush tropical gardens bursting with colour. Before long, it was time to return to reception, pop into the shops for a quick look, and wait for our transfer back to the Naviti.

It wasn’t quite the idyllic Warwick stay I had imagined. It was short, rainy, and fuelled by mediocre fries, but I was so grateful for the experience. After recommending this resort to so many clients over the years, I now have firsthand knowledge of its beauty and charm. What started as a travel mishap turned into a blessing in disguise, and I left with even more appreciation for this stunning part of Fiji.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE BOOKING THE WARWICK FIJI

When I used to book clients into The Warwick, I always had a list of questions running through my head: How far is it from the airport? Are the rooms dated or fresh? Now that I’ve finally experienced it myself, I can give you some honest answers from both a traveller’s and a travel agent’s point of view.

How far is The Warwick from Nadi International Airport?

It’s around an hour’s drive from the airport, and I’ll be honest, the two-hour transfer felt endless. We’d already had a stressful day, and I was exhausted and ready to cry. But once we pulled up the palm-lined driveway of the Warwick and saw the resort for the first time, it suddenly felt worth the trek.

What are the rooms like — modern or dated?

I’d always wondered this when booking clients in. Walking into our room, the first thing I noticed was the rich Fijian woodwork and traditional touches. They’re not super modern, but stylish and welcoming. Our pool view room was definitely the highlight. Families will love the interconnecting rooms, while couples can choose Warwick Club rooms for extra privacy.

What’s the food like?

This was the part I was most curious about! I only had room service and breakfast, and the latter really impressed me with so many choices to choose from. However, the room service was meh. However, I’ve also had clients in the past say good things about it with lots of choices. For families, the buffet at Bula Brasserie is the easiest option, and there’s also Japanese and Italian if you feel like mixing things up. Food in Fiji is pricey, so meal plans can be good value if you don’t plan on eating elsewhere.

Is there enough to do, or will we get bored?

Not a chance. You can snorkel straight off the beach, where the reef is apparently full of life, and the resort provides free gear. I spotted families playing tennis and mini-golf. There’s also a spa if you want something slower-paced. Personally, I loved the balance: plenty to do, but easy to just relax if that’s all you’re after.

Is it family-friendly, or better for couples?

Honestly, it’s both. Families are well looked after with the kids’ club, giving parents a much-needed break, and kids often stay and eat free on certain deals. But if you’re a couple, don’t be put off, the adults-only pool and Warwick Club area give you space to enjoy some peace. Just know the main pool can get a bit lively.

Is it safe to explore outside the resort?

This was a question I had before coming. The answer is yes. We felt very safe exploring the local area. Sigatoka town is nearby, offering markets, and features great excursions such as the Sigatoka River Safari or Kula Eco Park. It’s worth leaving the resort at least once to see a bit of the real Fiji.

Is The Warwick worth the money?

From a travel agent’s perspective, it’s really solid value for the Coral Coast. It’s not the cheapest resort, but you get a great mix of activities, dining, and atmosphere. For families, it’s brilliant. For couples, it depends on what you want: if you’re after pure seclusion, the Mamanuca or Yasawa Islands might suit you better. But if you want a resort that balances both worlds, The Warwick is a fantastic choice.

Thanks for reading my post today on my brief stay at the Warwick Fiji. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm and welcoming, and the resort itself is simply stunning. I loved the breakfast in the morning, especially the stack of pancakes! Yum! That said, the room service wasn’t great, which was a little disappointing after such a warm welcome when we first arrived. But honestly, it was a small hiccup in what was otherwise a lovely but brief stay. Even though our visit was brief, I would happily recommend The Warwick Fiji to future clients. Experiencing it firsthand gave me an even deeper appreciation for the resort, from the lush tropical gardens and beautiful pools to the mix of activities for all ages. Whether you’re travelling with family or as a couple, the range of amenities and the welcoming atmosphere make it a fantastic option for anyone looking for a balance of fun, relaxation, and it’s the kind of Coral Coast gem I’d happily book again in a heartbeat.

Don’t just take my word for it — book The Warwick Fiji and experience the Coral Coast for yourself.
