IS HYDE PARK IN LONDON REALLY WORTH VISITING?

Although a nice green space in any city, is a real bonus, many people ask me, is Hyde Park in London really worth visiting? In my opinion, I would have to say no. Although it can provide a much-needed oasis for some amongst the hustle and bustle of London, I’ve always found it to be completely overrated. There’s nothing worth visiting, unlike other gardens I’ve visited throughout the world, there’s always something to attract you, like a well manicured garden, or a beautiful meadow to wander through, but Hyde park is just… boring!

Hyde Park is spread over 145 acres. During a visit to London, I decided to see what all the fuss was about and go and explore. I have to admit, I was really underwhelmed. Hyde Park is simply just that – a park! There isn’t too much that is regal or special about it. It’s just a large green space where the locals and tourists go to sit on the grass and eat their lunch or catch up with friends.

After walking around all day, I was pretty tired, so after finding some comfy-looking deck chairs near the lake, I decided to sit for a short rest. You would have thought that I had been sitting on a sun lounger at a popular beach on the Costa Del Sol, in Spain as some authoritative looking men came over and tried to charge an exuberant fee, just to sit on

them. I honestly thought that they were free for the public to enjoy. So make sure you only sit on the grass unless you are willing to part with a month’s salary because the “Deck-Chair-Police” (as I call them) will be straight over to charge you if you make the same mistake I did!

Anyway, I didn’t want to pay, so instead, I went for a wander around to check out the sights. It’s no Central Park in New York, where you’re spoilt for things to see and do. I managed to locate a couple of nice paths lined with plants and a lake which has a memorial to the late Princess Diana, but other than this, I can’t write much more about it as there isn’t much else to say, unfortunately.

Thanks for reading my post on my adventures in Hyde Park, London. Despite having a little break from the crowds, I was so disappointed with this space. It could be so much more. Having visited other beautiful gardens around the world, I would have thought there would be different sections like a formal garden or Japanese gardens, etc. But for London’s main garden, it was very dull. Then the ‘deck-chair’ police wanted to charge me for sitting down on a chair? Erm… no thanks! Is there something I’m missing about Hyde Park?
