A SHORT GUIDE TO THINGS TO DO IN TIMES SQUARE, NEW YORK CITY

One of the most exciting places in the world!

Times Square at night

By the time I’d turned 21, several many moons ago, I really wanted to visit New York City! It seemed as though everyone I knew had at least spent a few days there hitting up the famous shops of Bloomingdales and Macy’s, as well as pursuing the neighbourhoods of Soho and China Town and the famous thoroughfare of Fifth Avenue. I’ve been several times since then, and I want to share with you the awesome experiences I’ve had here from attractions to restaurants, to help you plan the best holiday. It’s such a great place to be and you simply can’t visit the big apple, without exploring this iconic place!

Soaking up that exciting atmosphere…

A friend of mine once told me that the atmosphere at Times Square is indescribable and needs to be experienced firsthand. He was right. The place is so exciting, crazy and fun all at the same time. I must have come here every day that I was in New York.

Depending on the time of day you visit here will determine your experience. By day you have the fun amusement-style attractions, while at night you can choose from the many restaurants, bars and theatres.

Top Attractions

One of the best things you can do in Times Square is to go and see a theatre production. As Broadway runs straight through here, I highly recommend going to see one of the many performances while you’re in the city. It will definitely be a highlight of your trip, and a must-do when in the big apple.

There are many other well-known attractions here too, including the Hard Rock Café and Planet Hollywood, but above all, make sure to check out the incredible Madame Tussauds. When I visited, I was almost too scared to go inside because I thought Nicolas Cage’s wax figure was the real deal! The Morgan Freemon was also an excellent likeness. I’ve recently checked online to see what’s changed, and there’s now a wax Taylor Swift in there, who was probably in nappies during my visit. I definitely want to return because you now have the chance to stand in a fake Oval Office and pose on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Falon, which would be awesome!

Naked Cowboy

A Naked Cowboy?

Keep a lookout for the people in funny costumes which you can have your photo taken with (please tip them, this is their full-time job!). They certainly add to the fun atmosphere. On one of my visits, I spotted a guy in a Big Apple suit as well as the hilarious Naked Cowboy! Now, he’s not butt naked, as he does wear underpants, cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. He also has a guitar, which helps to give him some form of modesty. He struts his stuff as he walks around singing in Times Square, and he is also a really nice guy! When I first met him, I didn’t realise he was somewhat famous, but since then I have seen him on TV several times!

  1. I have never been to Time Square but, as it is packed with attractions and experiences, I am certain just going there would open up doors to many memories and interactions. That naked cowboy looks like a fun person to listen to and witness. 🙂

    1. It certainly is an exciting place 🙂 The Naked Cowboy is hilarious ha ha. I’ve always wandered if he’s there in the winter months??? Thanks for reading 🙂

  2. Your pics are awsome. As a New Yorker, there are so many things to do and see. But I think tourists appreciate the attractions in NYC more than the residents. I highly recommend the Brooklyn Bridge 🌉 and Central Park.

    1. Thanks Kevin! I totally get you. We often travel far and wide and miss what we have in our backyards, don’t we? You’re so right, I think tourists appreciate all destinations more than the people who live there, as they are only there for a short time and need to cram in as much as possible. Thanks so much for commenting 🙂
